Blaze, Middlesborough

Blaze is an intervention along the roadside landscape of the A66, the main arterial road through Middlesbrough. The scheme consists of a single sculptural proposal intended to provide continuity andidentity to the currently disparate roadside verges and is installed at the Cargo Fleet roundabout to the east of the town.

The design concept is by Ian McChesney and design development, manufacture and installation by Chris Brammall. A key part of the design development was to provide an effective solution to the engineering of the fitting elements and design an effective base for the sculptural pieces.

Manufactured in annodised aluminum, each piece is fitted as a singular unit to enable the angles to be correctly proportioned so as to create the wave effect.
